About Me
I am an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of New York. I earned a Master's degree in Social Work from Columbia University and a Bachelor's degree in Bio-Behavioral Health from Penn State University in University Park, PA. Additionally, I completed my sex therapy training at the University of Michigan School of Social Work in Ann Arbor, MI. My specialty is working with the LGBTQIA+ community, both adults and youth, and I am an avid advocate for equality and justice for sexual minorities. I am poly-friendly and kink-aware. Professionally, I am a member of the National Association of Social Workers-NYC Chapter, the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists, and the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom. |
Prior to establishing private practice, I ran groups for LGBTQ youth, conducted sexual health and peer education workshops, and held roles at non-profit, social service and hospital settings, with a primary focus in child welfare, parenting and family development, and inpatient and outpatient mental health care. With training and experience providing individual, couple, family, and group counseling using evidence-based modalities, I have worked extensively with adults, youth, families with school-aged children, and, especially, those with emotional, mental health and developmental challenges.
My Vision
My vision is that we live in a world where individuals experience themselves as mattering and worthy of having joy, success, positive health, pleasure and fulfillment. I believe each person is entitled to a healthy sexuality, emotional and physical safety, access to information/education as desired, a positive view of self, and the right to express this self in whichever way is most authentic.
My therapeutic approach encompasses this vision, and I practice from a warm, empathic, non-judgmental and empowering stance to strengthen individuals and relationships. I treat each client as unique and carefully assess what is wanted and needed through a comprehensive evaluation that determines how treatment will be most effective and worth your time and energy. I avoid a "cookie cutter", one-size-fits-all approach, as I believe every client brings distinct strengths, abilities, and questions.
Therapy is a collaboration between the therapist and you, the client. It asks of you your willingness to show up and engage, as well as commit to the process. I believe that bringing my professional expertise and your self-expertise together will optimally support you to identify and achieve your goals. I draw from my results-oriented approach in helping you deepen your understanding of yourself, so that you may grow, transform, develop and sustain solutions, and restructure interactions in relationships to find satisfaction in self and with others.
